• yadā yadā hi dharmasya
• glānir bhavati bhārata
• abhyutthānam adharmasya
• tadātmānaḿ sṛjāmy aham

Translation

Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion — at that time I descend Myself.
